Stay In Control Of Your Cholesterol Levels With A Healthy Diet

Posted: Feb 06, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

High cholesterol levels can take a toll on your overall well being making you susceptible to heart diseases and other fatal ailments. It is therefore extremely important for you to be able to stay in control of your cholesterol levels. According to doctors, rising cholesterol can be brought under control by following a strict diet regime. This implies that you should refrain from consuming fatty food products at all times. Moreover, you should include nutritious foods to ensure that the cholesterol levels are controlled properly. Maintaining a balanced diet is the key to physical fitness and stamina.

A balanced diet includes both macronutrients and micronutrients in equal proportions. The macronutrients typically refer to fats, carbs and proteins while the micronutrients include vitamins, minerals and fibers. It is essential to include these nutritious foods in our daily diet to build resistance and bring down the cholesterol significantly. Another aspect that needs to be understood properly is that not all fats are bad for our health. In fact, doctors strongly advise patients to consume fatty acids regularly to lower cholesterol levels. One of the most widely recommended fatty acids that have gained considerable emphasis in recent times is omega 3 fatty acids. These acids are found in vegetable oils and fish oils in abundance.

People are also seen switching to non saturated oils and fats that have been proven to be highly effective in lowering cholesterol levels in our body. Non saturated fats are found in foods such as nuts, vegetable oils and fish. A number of well known dieticians recommend going for a complete vegetarian diet once or twice a week as it has been proven that vegetarian food is more nutritious than the non vegetarian diet. It is further important to note that psychological disorders such as bulimia are not effective in dealing with cholesterol problems. Increasing cholesterol levels can be brought down only through scientifically proven methods.
