Tianna Lewis McHugh, 2 years old, suffers from reflex anoxic seizures (RAS), a rare condition that result in blood supply being temporarily cut off from the brain.
Little Tianna’s condition is triggered by tears, because if she does, her skin turns white, the body is stiffened, and her heart and breathing stops temporarily. She was diagnosed at 18 months old, and her parents have the difficult task to prevent her from crying.
According to Fox News, Tianna has suffered 10 seizures since her diagnosis, and Cheri her 23 year old mother, and resident of Brymbo, Wrexham North Wales described when it first happened. She described how she took Tianna from her chair, and placed her on the floor, where she started crying for split seconds, and then looked like she was dead. Cheri was quoted by the Daily Mail has saying “She went a deathly grey, her lips and around her eyes were blue, and her eyes rolled back in her head. I thought she was dead and I was hysterical”
Reflex anoxic seizure reportedly can also be triggered by pain, fear, fright or a very hot or cold bath.
Andy, Tianna’s father, in describing his daughter’s condition, told the Daily Mail that “When she has fits it’s horrendous”, He further stated that “When she starts to cry we usually have to flick water in her face to bring her out of the shock” “She can do whatever she wants but for 18 months we have been cautious with her so that she doesn’t get hurt or shocked and cry”
