Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is among the most prevalent sexually transmitted diseases. However even though (HPV)it  is rampant and widespread, it's been only found out lately and little is known relating to this illness. Although media and school discuss HPV among other STDs, more efforts are needed to disseminate substantial details about it.

Human Papillomavirus is a viral in nature, which means the disease is a result of virus, hence the name. You will find more than 200 diverse strains of Human Papillomavirus. And like all the strains, the human papillomaviruses affects only the skin and mucus membranes. A lot of the known strains of HPV have no symptoms in humans. But when symptoms are present, they manifest as warts, showing up mostly on hands and feet.

As a sexually transmitted disease, you will find thirty strains of HPV that can be spread through sexual contact. In manifesting the signs, the the signs of HPV as STD surface as warts on the vaginal area, the penis and around the anus area. When warts are present in the genital region, they are instantly called genital warts with medication and treatment different from regular warts.

In rare cases, a few strains of HPV may cause cancer. Precancerous lesions and invasive cancer are outcomes of continual infection with "high-risk" HPV varieties. If undiscovered and not treated, the disease may progress to cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, penis and anus.

At some stage in the life of a sexually active person, an estimated 80% of them can get infected with the condition. With this particular figure, the infection rate of HPV is more rampant than herpes, gonorrhea and syphilis. The vast majority of these infected people show no symptoms and it is very likely that they do not know that they are infected. Thus giving more danger on passing on the virus and infecting others.

Within a year, the immune system is usually able to clear the virus in the body. When a particular virus is removed, the infected person is now immune to that specific strain of HPV. He/she can never be infected with that virus once again, unless a new strain is obtained. One should not wait long to let the body heal itself. If you think that you may have Human Papillomavirus, go to the closest STD clinic and get examined as quickly as possible.

Many strains of HPV can be cured and treated easily. Women can have an annual PAP smear following their first sexual activity for early prognosis of cervical cancer. For men, routine check-up for HPV and other STDs are also recommended.

HPV-learn more about this STD that gets little consideration.  Being the most common sexually transmitted disease, you should educate yourself on the situation.
