It is perhaps the most important factor to see while choosing your treatment centre. Addiction is a progressive disease. Addiction, once treated, can occur again if the patient becomes weak mentally.

Most of the times, the addiction treatment in Maine includes a detoxifying process. Detoxification of the body is nothing but cleaning of your body from the different toxins that are registered in your body due to the long years of addiction. Detoxification is all to do with your body and not mind. Mind is where your actual addiction is. It is the mind where the urges for a substance are born and it is the mind which desires the substance every time when it gets weak. Also there are some drugs which have a direct effect on the nervous system, for example, heroin. Therefore it is essential to not only filter the body but also the brain.

Here is where the aftercare comes in picture. It helps the patient come in terms with his addiction and helps him curb it for life.

The aftercare in the addiction treatment in Maine is very interesting. The patient is made to go through different exercises which help him fight his addiction. Yoga or the art of living techniques are very popular and efficient these days.

Today the best addition treatments in Maine have an aftercare module in their programs. Sometimes the treatment centres have their own aftercare techniques and activities to help the patient after the treatment is over that helps the patient to curb his desires for the substance of his addiction when he goes back to his normal life. Sometimes these treatment centres also call external professionals to help the patients after the treatment. There are also other agencies where some of the patients who come to the treatment centres in Maine through the intervention programs and most of these programs also include after treatment counselling with the patient.

A good intervention program also holds counselling sessions with the family. These counselling also help the family to use a few activities which the family can do with the patients from home. Most of the times the families just have to supervise and report it back to the professionals. Here the families should remember not to violate their responsibilities and stretch the patient's limit as it is the hardest phase of the patient's treatment.

Here we list a few aftercare activities which the patients undergo after the addiction treatment in Maine.

1. After the treatment, the patient generally continues his medicine for some time and stops it gradually. This is because with the detoxification, a patient may also be taking a medicine that aids him from curbing his urge to his substance of addiction. So stopping the medicine suddenly could either result in relapse of addiction or may even cause withdrawal symptoms to the patient. Therefore the treatment centre in which the patient underwent his treatment conducts this aftercare treatment.

2. For some patients who have been addicted since a long period, need to go through a very intensive aftercare treatment with their program, which may sometimes also include residence at the treatment centre under a constant watch.

3. Mentoring is another important method of aftercare. Here a patient has a one to one talk with a professional every once or twice a week. A complete eradication of addiction is however a group effort. When a patient comes home a changed man, the family members are not quite used to seeing him like that. Also the family member tent to be over precautious to avoid the patient to relapse his addiction and this may come out in their relationships. Hence a group counselling with the family is also a good option.

4. Yoga, art of living, breathing exercises, meditation, massages are another exercised which are taught to the patient which come very useful when the patient is strongly fighting his addiction of the substance.

5. Taking up hobbies is also strongly recommended in the aftercare treatment. Doing something you love doing helps a patient to distract his mind from the addiction. Families are also advised to involve the patient in a lot of social activities.
