Before you start to consider any of the stop snoring surgery options available, you might want to make sure that you've done all you can to address and correct the problem on your own.

While stop snoring surgery options are becoming safer and more commonplace today, they still involve cutting, scarring, and healing time, and should be considered as only your last solution or one to be used in extreme cases.

Snoring itself is not to be taken lightly or ignored. This condition can cause permanent damage to the throat and mouth, and can cause chronic sleeplessness both for the snorer and the person that he or she is living with. Before you consider your stop snoring surgery options, remember that sometimes you can address your snoring with some simple solution. For example, when your bedroom is too dry this can cause your throat to dry up as well. Try a humidifier or warm mist vaporizer in the bedroom.

Avoid drinking alcohol prior to bedtime as this too dries the throat. If you smoke, it's time to quit. Consider some marjoram oil, which is sold in jars and which you simply open at night before you go to bed - the aroma fills the room and helps to keep your sinuses open all night.

Of course, some have tried many of these things or have been told by their doctor that their stop snoring surgery options are necessary. A person may have an obstruction in their throat from excessive tissue in the soft palate of the mouth, the area on the roof of the mouth behind the tongue. They may have an excessively large uvula, which may need to be cut away to clear the air passages.

The stop snoring surgery options for these cases are usually minor and done on an outpatient basis, meaning the patient goes home right after the surgery. A doctor or dentist will typically use lasers to cut away some of the tissue in this area of the throat and mouth. They may also need to cut away or remove the tonsils, pharynx, or adenoids in the throat if any of these are blocking the airways.

These surgeries too are very minor and relatively painless. Of course, to know the stop snoring surgery options that are best for you, talk to your doctor openly and honestly about your concerns and have him or her answer your questions.
