What Should One Do To Stop Panic Attacks

Posted: May 27, 2010 |

The ability to stop panic attacks has a lot to do with the emotional and mental stability of the person. When normal human instincts like fear are perceived an individual will respond with the appropriate flight or fight response but when these instincts are over done then there is a need for concern. Learning how to cope with these fears is crucial to preventing the manifestation of the mental disorder responsible for panic attacks.

Panic attacks can cause many problems as they can disrupt the day to day activity in the afflicted making it impossible to even accomplish routine tasks. Learning how to stop these attacks is crucial. The key to solving any problem is getting down to the root causes and conditions. In understanding these causes and conditions one can be better prepared for future attacks and be able to deal with them accordingly. Another important consideration is the environment you live in and how changes in your surroundings can affect you for the better.

The first thing is to be aware of the warning signs and symptoms that precede an attack. At times these signs are obvious but they can also be very subtle. Awareness is the key to preventing these signals from developing into more serious problems and mental disorders. Watch for signs like gasping for air, increased heart rate, hot flashes, chills, nausea, trouble swallowing, and restlessness just to name a few. Whenever these symptoms occur the best action to take is to cease what you are doing and be still. If you have access to a peaceful area like a park you may sit and enjoy nature or take a walk. If these actions fail in helping dissipate your panic then you may want to seek out medical help.

Diet is the key to keeping you mentally and emotionally fit. There are foods that can increase your blood pressure level and put you at risk of heart attacks. Other foods can make you feel sluggish and unenergetic. Make an effort to eliminate these foods from your diet and increase your fiber intake. Awareness coupled with proper diet can go a long way to stop panic attacks.
