What You Need to Know About Varicose Veins

In the United States, varicose veins are a common condition. They affect approximately fifteen-percent of men and higher for woman. Varicose veins can look blue or purple, shown enlarged veins that you may typically see bulging out of your leg. Varicose means twisted, in English language, it comes from a Latin word.

Anyone can get varicose veins and they can happen anywhere on the body. It is important to know that the condition of existing varicose veins then more often than not they will be in the legs and or feet. The veins can occur in the lower extremities due to standing and walking. This increase the pressure in the veins within the lower half of your body, and it is not only a cosmetic concern, as many believe.

Varicose veins for men and woman can make you feel less attractive, but the importance is to note that for many others these veins can cause pain and discomfort. The condition can lead to problems that are more serious if it is not treated. More important these veins may serve as an indication that you may be at a higher risk of other disorder, or have a circulatory system.


As other health related issues, some believe that self-help, measures will work such as using compression stockings, and or changing certain aspects in your lifestyle. Pregnant women will sometimes develop varicose veins, due to the increase of the volume of blood in a woman's body. It will decrease the flow of blood from the legs to the pelvis. Changing after the birth of the baby most of the woman will no longer have the varicose veins.

Varicose veins symptoms happen in different ways, a number of people will not experience any discomfort. Others may feel achiness, burning, throbbing, cramping, itching around the one or more of your veins, and skin ulcers. These ulcers are normally near your ankle, this will represent a severe the vascular disease, and this needs immediate medical attention.

You may be wondering what can be done to help you rid the varicose veins, well there are a number of ways. Such as compression stockings, exercising, losing weight and keeping your legs elevated. If you have minor problems from the veins, or if needed to have any procedures done then you may be looking at a varicose vein treatment:


• Sclerotherapy- This is a non-surgical procedure by injection of a solution in the varicose veins.
• Endovenous Laser Treatment- By heating the inside of the vein which seals it shut and disappears
• Radiofrequency Occlusion ( VNUS)- Method of heating the veins, causing to contract and close
• Laser and Pulsed Light- This is a light beam that is pulsed on the veins in order to seal them off, making them dissolve

There are ways to help you from getting the varicose veins back or get them for the first time. These range from watching your weight, and diet, watch what you wear, as in high heels, the lower heels work calf muscles more, which is better for your veins. Elevate your legs, avoid long periods of sitting or standing, and do not sit with your legs crossed.
