The most common factor which triggers yeast infection symptoms is a weak immune system. The question you should now be asking is, what causes the immune system to become weak? Read on and discover what causes our bodies to become weak making it a very likely host to bad bacterium and fungal infections.

But first, lets go through some of the most common symptoms associated with yeast infection.

Female yeast infection symptoms include: a white or yellow vaginal discharge which looks like cottage cheese and has a very slight smell of yeast, persistent vaginal itching and irritation, redness and rawness of the vagina and vulva, discomfort during sexual intercourse and a burning sensation when urinating. It is important to mention at this stage that a fishy odour is associated with Bacterial Vaginosis, another type vaginal infection and it is not a symptom of a yeast infection.

Male yeast infection symptoms include a white discharge, red and patchy sores on the head of the penis along with itching and burning.

Yeast also known as Candida naturally resides in all our bodies but yeast can overgrow and can lead to an infection due to the inability of the immune system to fight it off and defend itself against the overgrowth.

Here are some of the most common causes of fungal infections:

  1. Regular use of antibiotics. Antibiotics kill off good bacteria making it easy for yeast to overgrow. So if you've just come off a recent course of antibiotics or are currently on one you might speak to your doctor to take you off them until the infection has cleared up.
  2. Birth control pills and steroids. Certain birth control pills have the same effect on yeast as antibiotics. They kill off the good bacteria and make our bodies more susceptible to yeast overgrowth.
  3. Our diet. Our Western diet is the third most common reason for yeast to overgrow. A diet high in sugar, refined carbohydrates, alcohol and dairy products kill off good bacteria feeding yeast.

In order to stop yeast infection symptoms it's important to eliminate or greatly reduce our reliance on antibiotics and improve our diet in order to build up our immune system and reduce yeast toxicity levels allowing our bodies to naturally fight off and prevent Candida to overgrow.
