How to stop a divorce and save your relationship

If you truly want to stop your divorce and save your relationship, you have to explain to your spouse how badly you want to give your relationship a second chance.  This is not always possible but it is vitally necessary if you want to have chance of stopping the divorce.  Even if the divorce is in process, it can always be stopped before the final paperwork is signed and filed.  The sooner in the process can you stop the divorce, then the greater likelihood is that the divorce proceedings will not start up again at least in the immediate future.

Therefore if you do want to stop a divorce, first of all meet with your spouse and try to convince him/her to give your relationship another try.  Don't resort to pleading or begging.  It is a bad idea and tends to cause the person to get very defensive and ultimately make it much more difficult to work things out.

If possible try to start acting in a more mature and pleasant manner.  You might be amazed at the other person's reaction and help to mend your broken relationship.  Explain in as calm a manner as possible why you don't want to get a divorce and how much better a second chance would be for the both of you.  Chances are your mate knows how hurt and miserable you are and how much you want another chance at love.  If you can change your behavior, you will normally be surprised at the reaction.

You can also show a better side of yourself than your spouse may not have experienced for many weeks.  You can also suggest marital or couples counseling to help avoid divorce.  This has worked for many many couples and it could go a long way towards greatly improving your relationship.  A good counselor can really help you two to communicate and understand what is going on in your relationship.  If possible it is very much worth pursuing.

At the counseling session, you will most likely have the oppportunity to explain to your spouse why you fell in love with him/her in the first place.  Both of you can be reminded of what was good in your relationship and why it is worth fighting for.  You must be honest with yourself and accept some things you may not want to hear.  Communication is key for the both of you.  If you show a sincere effort to address your problems, it can go a long way in convincing your partner to stop the divorce at least temporarily (if not permanently)

If you are successful at stopping the divorce, you must keep in mind what were the major factors which lead to the divorce proceedings in the first place.  Your spouse was prepared to divorce you and although you convinced him/her not to do so at this time, it could happen again if don't make a sincere effort to address the problems in your relationship.  If your spouse has already shown a willingness to file for divorce, it could be easier for him/her to do so again at a later time.  You have to work at building a good relationship together to avoid a difficult situation later on.
