I often ask myself while using my clothes airer. Why should life be so simple? After years of looking for gadgets and appliances which impressed with their technical advance. Here I am drying laundry on a clothes rack! Not only that, I have taught my children that this is tidier and more economical. Even my eldest, now at university, has asked for a wall-mounted airer. Her flat is so tiny with limited drying space. Instead of running up large laundry bills she knew what would be easy, practical and economical.

It really came home to me when I checked the energy usage of my tumble dryer. Like many I thought the arrival of the electric tumble dryer was a miracle. Like my mother before me who loved the twin tub washing machine. When the automatic came out she had such difficulty switching. The washing machine manufacturers called them ‘Tub watchers’. Because they loved to handle the clothes to make sure they were properly washed!

When my Mum gave in and we bought her an automatic she would sit and watch it go round for ages.

When the tumble dryer arrived we didn’t realise how it baked our clothes and removed fibres And the bills, my goodness how electricity costs pile up.
Well frankly I could kick myself with all these years of excess.

The clothes airer is such a natural way of drying. It fits beautifully with my day and takes only minutes to fill. Then I simply get on with the rest of my tasks.
The strange thing is it gives me more time to do other things. It simply means there is a long gap between hanging laundry and taking it off the rack.
Instead of a day filled with washing and drying it becomes an overnight wash followed by a day of drying.

Time management the easy way – thanks to my natural drying clothes rack.

pigeon laid 2 eggs which produced one offspring ...
By: clara | 18-06-2008
pigeon laid 2 eggs which produced one offspring, now I have a baby pigeon on my planter on my high-rise (Florida). I'm feeding the mother daily our parrot and cockatiel food and leaving a container with water. I don't know exactly how old (it hatched while we went away for 10 days) we're back 9 days so I figure its about 19 days old, has some nice feathers, not completely covered, some fuss. My question is: I moved the planter partially under a table to give him cover from the rain, my husband told me to move it back (1 feet away) so his parents will not be upset. I'm so upset today, it rained so hard and the poor thing got soaked and wet, the palm on the planter where he sits its not good cover. I went in the rain and moved back the planter under the table, cut some dry leaves from the palm and laid them around. Now I read that it is not good to put leaves, although these are dry little pieces of palm (areca). Help!!!! The parents come every days and hang around. the baby seems quite healthy. I'm taking photos and making videos only when the parents are not around and not too close as not to disturb the chick. What can I do? will the parents be upset because I moved the planter one foot away? should I when stop raining moved back the planter to the same spot? it is in plain view to the parents. The soil of the planter is wet, will the baby get sick? Thank you.
