You learn things over time. I've been a Yuba Sutter painting contractor for 40 years now. I've had many people share their secrets with me that makes what I do go better than it might have otherwise. I've combined all of what I've learned and made it our standard procedure for every job. That way I know every job will go well, last a long time and look better than most of the other paint jobs done by other contractors.
But since I've learned so much from others I want to be able to share some of that with others too. My favorite book (the Bible) says "freely you have received, freely give" and I always want to be that kind of a person}}}}. So here are some quick tips for you to get you started.
Preparation is crucial to a good finished product. Too many painters just want to get the job done and skip much or all of this step. The result is a job that may look okay to begin with but that will not last long at all.
It only takes a few minutes to toss a new coat of paint over an old one on the side of your house and it will actually make that side of your house look fairly good very quickly. It is really fun to see the paint change the look of everything so fast but if you haven't prepared the surfaces correctly it won't last very long and won't even look right to begin with.
Just think about it. It takes a lot, lot longer for a Yuba Sutter residential painter or a Yuba Sutter Commercial painter to do all the proper preparation but that is how it should be done. In order to do a job right we have to do all of the following before we ever touch it with paint.
- Be sure all the plants and surrounding area is covered with drop cloths
- Use a pressure washer to get all the dirt and loose paint off
- Let the pressure washing project dry out revealing any still loose paint
- Scrape all the loose paint off the entire project
- Fill any spots that need it with the proper filler material
- Give proper time for the filler to dry before sanding it
- Use sandpaper or a sanding block to sand smooth the filled spots and any other rough spot
- Use masking tape and masking paper or plastic to completely cover anything on the house that shouldn’t be painted the main body color
- Us the right primer for the job to prime raw or unpainted fill spots
- Double check the entire project to make sure it is completely ready for the paint application
Once the preparation is completed you can start to do the fun part of applying paint and expect it to last well and look great. If you don't prepare the surfaces correctly, the job may look better when the paint is applied but it only takes a little bit of bad weather a few months later to make the new paint start peeling and bubbling off. Even if it makes it past the first winter season , it still is setting itself up to come loose over the short time frame instead of lasting like it should.
If you want a Yuba Sutter painting contractor that makes it common practice to make sure every job is done right, look for us at http://RussellAndBoals.com. If you decide to do the job yourself, be sure that everything is prepared correctly before the paint is applied.
