Selecting Vertical Blinds, a Task for Designers

Television and movie designers alike are required to replicate real life settings and oftentimes these setting will require the selection of window treatments in order to create the desired effects. Normally working under grueling deadlines and timeframes, the proper selection has take into account sound reproduction, aesthetics, modern or traditional design and availability. These window treatments will most likely be custom made to specific dimensions and of materials that will enhance the message of the setting where the specific program is to be recorded for later broadcast. Essential to the process is the availability of such specific window treatment and a provider that can work within extremely tight demands. A studio setting will always reflect the needed atmosphere leading to the theme of the program, be that a comedy or a drama and this setting will always include the interior of a home, office, hospital or any other physical plant. The advantage of vertical blinds to be used for this application is its versatility. Vertical blinds can be used in all setting regardless of the plot. In an office setting, for example, vertical blinds can be next to the entrance door as well as behind the President’s desk. Vertical blinds will always fit in any decor, it is one of those products which will always be “in fashion and acceptable”, even at the movies. One of the major benefits of vertical blinds is that no matter how large a surface area is to be covered, vertical blinds will always appear non-obtrusive and will blend with the surrounding decor. This is one of the reasons vertical blinds are becoming a very popular window treatment with set and studio designers. Working under a specific budget, designers will try to reduce expenditures by using low cost PVC vertical blinds. Albeit many PVC vertical blinds are replicating the fabric look, they are not always lower in cost. Oil prices have increased globally and so has the cost of manufacturing PVC. Additionally, sound control in a movie or studio set is of primordial importance and PVC can be noisy and affect the sound effects. Fabric vertical blinds are quiet by nature and can also dampen unwanted sounds. Whenever under monetary pressures and yet needing to express a certain atmosphere, vertical blinds allow the smart designer to create an environment otherwise impossible because of monetary restraints. Fabric vertical blinds are available in a multitude of patterns and colors and will greatly contribute to the ability to inexpensively project the necessary ambiance. The large pallet of patterns and colors allows the designers to demonstrate their ability to create whatever is necessary to help insure the success of the production. Today’s modern studios require that sets be reused in order to improve profitability and save time. Vertical blinds are versatile enough that they can be “recycled” to other sets or the hardware used over and over by simply replacing the vertical fabric louvers to a different pattern or color to fit a new requirement. Unlike other types of window treatments such as drapes, vertical blinds can be custom fabricated in a matter of days thus giving the set designer the ability to meet the deadlines inherent to show business. The key factor to quick availability is the relationship between the studio and the vertical blind fabricator. A benefit of this relationship is that quality will not be sacrificed due to time restraints. In summary, whenever designers consider window treatments for a set, factors to be considered must include color, pattern, noise control, quick availability and quality of the product. Fabric vertical blinds meet all these requirements with ease and are a product that will be aesthetically pleasing to the viewers without spending a fortune. Set designers are always better off when choosing fabric vertical blinds.
