skirting for a modern erain modern   times it is important to get the correct styling and modernisation to achieve   the best value for your home.the key to this is getting the colours and overall styling   right.therefore when choosing skirting   boards, wall covering and also the flooring, you need to pay attention to   designs that will fit together, rather than something just off the shelf.the good news is that   there are lots of new designs of skirting boards coming to market, with   innovative designs offering you a wide choice, just as there is with your curtains   or other furnishings.the choice of wood will play a   great part in this process of fitting skirting boards.

MDF offers a low cost, low maintenance option and lends itslef to   being painted any colour necessary.if you want to go for style, or an expensive look, you can   got for a snooker cue esque wood such as maple for your skirting boards, or   even other hardwoods such as beech skirting, beech skirting, beech skirting   etc.using a beech skirting will   give a great natural look to your home but it will also look expensive!with hardwood, a lacquer or varnish will   prevent it from getting damaged but it must also be prevented from getting   damp.as for the designs, you can go for some   more traditional styles such as ogee, torus, bevelled or bullnose. however you can go for much more modern designs such as   modern, ribbed skirting, reeded skirting, stepped skirting or even a jazz   skirting that is now available!once you have the skirting boards sorted, you will   want to lay a nice floor.

carpets have always been around, however in the last few   years laminate floors became a range and then engineered floors took over   before solid wood floors were accepted as the best option.engineered   floors are a similar finish to real wood flooring however they are a fraction   of the cost.once the   skirting boards and flooring have been laid, you may want to consider   updating the stair rails and picture rails.these are usually best purchased   in hardwood such as oak, as they will get more wear and tear than the   skirting boards.picture rails   are quite easily fitted with a spirit level and adhesive.it may be easier however   to book a professional carpenter to fit the stair rails properly for safety   reasons. That brings you onto the furniture.

You can go for standard ‘fit the bill' furniture that will fill   the odd space with an occasional table, or a desk that will be useful.Or alternatively you can go for some high end solid oak furniture that   will adorn any home with a look of elegance.the   skirting boards will need to match the furniture, whichever choice you go   for.if you have chosen to go for   mainly hardwood furniture then it would be most likely that beech skirting   boards will give you the best result.you can always use mdf however   without the need to go to great expense and still get a neat and tidy   finish.

Solid beech skirting or even beech skirting is the option if your out   for the best results.
