Tips: Make Building your Shed a Snap!

If you are not the craftiest guy in town, but you need a storage shed, I have great news for you. You might not be able to build your own shed from scratch, but you can build your own shed with very little help by purchasing a kit.

Buying a pre-fabbed kit has several nice features. First, they think of everything: my shed came with very wide telescoping doors and driving my lawn tractor right into the shed is a cinch. Second construction is extremely simple. I think these sheds are a great option for people that do not want to take on the construction of a wooden shed. Finally, these outbuildings come with a 12 year warranty, which you don't get if you build your own from scratch.

The first step in building a storage shed is to determine where you'd like to place it and what size shed you're looking for. Be sure to measure how much available space you have and pick the size that is right for your yard. Also, review your color schemes and decide what hue you'd like your building to be; pre-fabbed units come in a variety of colors to match your own house's exterior.

When building a storage shed, you need two things: a shed and a foundation to set it on. You can choose from many different sizes for the shed. You can get a 10x14, a 10x9 or even an 8x8 size shed. Fortunately, I recently found some steel sheds for sale at a local discount store. These kits come unassembled and ready for you to put together from one box. You can also buy foundation kits from many home improvement stores. These are so easy to put together. There is no guessing what part goes where. Everything is labeled and is easily assembled in less than an hour. Inside the box, nothing could be easier. All of the pieces come numbered, pre-drilled and pre-cut. (It's almost idiot-proof.)

My wife and I, who aren't necessarily the handiest people in the world, started and completed construction in just one day. And there wasn't even any painting involved! I felt very accomplished when I was done. You do not have to build your own shed from scratch to feel like a professional builder. I would highly recommend this type of shed to anyone looking for some extra storage space at their home!
