Yet with any diet look at what happens when you get down to the desired weight and go off the diet! In the book it is mentioned that there are four main stages to the diet: Induction, ongoing weight loss, premaintenance, and maintenance. During the first two weeks, you are in the induction stage, many people have lost up to 15 pounds or more so I have noticed. This is due to carbs being taken out of the diet as a main staple or at least down to 20 grams or more every day. The carbs that you can have some vegetables that are low in them. The second stage, known as ongoing weight loss, will let you have 25 grams of carbs everyday. You then move to the pre-maintenance stage, in which you can try other foods to see what carbs you can add into your diet. After you have reached your weight loss goals, you may eat these foods. Choosing healthy carbs is to become a way of life. I would have to say then that fluctuation is primarily due to choosing not to continue to eat healthy, and believe me I have seen the fluctuations and the frustration. Also we can't forget an incorporation of exercise. Healthy lifestyle changes, such as quiting smoking, are also important. Many people have called into question the safety of the Atkins diet due to its severe methods, and some say that the plan only makes you bounce back to your original weight as soon as you hit the maintenance level.
