Nobody (truthfully) ever said that it was easy to run an online business. It is certainly challenging to generate traffic and sales when you are first starting out. The most profitable products are almost always your own. To be really successful in this business, you should spend the time necessary developing your own products.
Before jumping into the process of creating your own product, do plenty of research. Visit forums that are related to our niche. Look, listen, and learn. Find out what people want. Determine their problems and needs. By doing this type of research, you are setting the groundwork to develop a successful product.
After doing your preliminary research, look to develop solutions to the needs and problems that your research uncovered. Your solutions should improve the quality of life physically, emotionally, or financially. It is only after you have completed this step should you begin to think about what sort of product you are going to create.
After you have determined what type product you are going to create, work on a catchy memorable name. Do not skimp or rush through this process. Research possible names using searches. Disregard names that get little or no search traffic or names that are jammed with too much competition.
After you have narrowed the name down to three or four choices, check the availability of domain names. Are they available for your top choices? This is vitally important. If none of your main choices re available, go back and do additional research to see if you can find other suitable choices.
After you have completed all of the research above, you can begin working on your project. The research above could take several weeks. But by doing that necessary first, you can save yourself the heartache and pain of creating a product that sits in your computer collecting digital dust.
Putting together a good selling product for your online business is similar to grammar school. To be successful, you have to learn the three R’s; Research, Research, Research!

My husband is a stockbroker in Florida. We have been hit very hard by the accelerated real estate crash in our area (2nd in the nation for foreclosures) and as a result of tenant vacancies and inability to liquidate investement properties ahead of the bow wave of declining values he now has nearly 7 properties in foreclosure. I am extremely concerned about the mortgage companies pursuing him for deficiency judgements. There is just no way he could pay all of them if they are granted to the creditor and goes to collection. He says he can't file for bankruptcy because he will lose his stock broker license. I think a bankruptcy is less risky then having all the foreclosures on his credit and the possiblity of judgements/collections against him. What can he do to protect his license?
