Though the harsh winds of economic downturn may be blowing, there are a handful of careers that are slated to grow, prosper, and flourish in 2008.
Healthcare
The ever-growing need for healthcare professionals is only expected to increase, especially with aging baby boomers and the massive influx of immigrants America is currently experiencing (and will continue to). Jobs in all aspects of healthcare, such as nursing, imaging technology, and hospice will be available, many with rewarding benefits and handsome salaries.
The World Wide Web
The internet is becoming increasingly prevalent in the daily lives of America; from shopping to gaming to gathering information and gleaning resources, the convenience of the internet has enabled it to become fully integrated into nearly every aspect of our lives. As a result, jobs within the digitized world are mounting every single day, from web designers to graphic artists to programmers. A job within this sector will no doubt be around for years to come.
Globalization
As more and more corporations are globally expanding, the need for individuals well-versed in foreign cultures and languages has skyrocketed. Companies are willing to pay top dollar for business development employees willing to work overseas.
Emergency Planning
The expert consensus in America is that there will be another terrorist attack despite efforts to protect and safeguard. Careers in the antiterrorism sector have snowballed since the 9/11 attacks and more jobs are expected to be created, especially in the event of another attack. It is presumed that demand will particularly escalate in fields such as computer security and Middle East intelligence.
Environmentalism
The “green” and eco-friendly movement that is sweeping the nation is really only in its infancy. As global awareness spreads about the effect growing populations have on the environment, more and more jobs are being formed to combat global warming. These range from manufacturing green products to environmental positions within the government. There has been a particularly sharp increase in jobs available in alternative energy and the automobile industry, as hybrid cars become more popular and gas prices continue to soar.
CDL Driver Jobs
As the backbone of the American economy, truck drivers are privy to the rare and often unique circumstance of total job security. Consumer demand has not decreased in the slightest despite slow economic growth and truck drivers are still needed to deliver commodities. In fact, truck drivers deliver nearly everything that is consumed in this country. With an aging trucker demographic and increased demand, available CDL driver jobs will only continue to increase.
