Keith Brandon is a 78 year old retired businessman with the nickname of (Geezil), he manages a website that offers advice on “How to Save Your Republic”.
All organizations whether they are businesses, sports teams, labor organizations or government bureaus will create excesses and become corrupt unless the law of competition or some other force is employed to control those abuses.
Some organizations like labor unions and government bureaus have no competition to control excesses, so other controls must be implemented; therein lays the problem, the USA leadership in government is the only control for those two entities, and that changes every time administrations in Washington change.
The two party political divisions are mostly divided over the role of labor unions, and the size of government. Conservatives would like to reduce the size of government and limit the role of unions; liberal progressives believe government needs to control our lives, and government should be bigger. The fact that labor unions support liberals with huge campaign funds can’t be ignored.
Labor unions provide a necessary function but always push too far, and that results in killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Labor leaders are just the same as government leaders, they must create victims so they can be re-elected by solving problems for those victims. Irresponsible leaders ignore the fact that their company, and country, might be destroyed in the process.
How do we incorporate competition into unions or government? Should we have more than one union or government body providing the same service to create competition? That might work if those entities provided something of value, competition in the private sector works to control prices of commodities or services, but in the case of government services, or union representation, it doesn’t make sense to double up on a problem of corruption.
Government growth and labor unions are the primary reason for the bankruptcy of the USA. Excessive government regulation and uncompetitive labor cost has destroyed the bulk of our heavy manufacturing and productive jobs in America. Teachers unions and their opposition to programs that provide competition in education have condemned many inner city children to lives without any opportunity to compete for the American Dream.
Those are facts that are indisputable unless you are one of those people whose re-election is more important than your country. Many of those politicians skew the facts or engage in the blame game to create a diversion to hide the truth; like the old shell game designed to divert your attention.
Competition works extremely well in the private sector when government and unions are relegated to their proper place. I was a union steward in my early working career and worked as a business manager later, I’ve experienced the problems of both labor and management.
There are no sweat shops today, unless you’re one of the illegal slave laborers who should not be here. Successful business leaders today recognize the requirement to treat workers fairly, and also the need to attract the most qualified. The very best arraignment is a company union made up of workers and management who recognize that unless the company is successful nobody wins.
National labor unions have no place in a free society and are just as destructive as big government. The answer to the fact that neither are controlled by competition, is reduction of the size of unions and government to their proper place. Unions should be limited to individual company representation, and government should be limited to the responsibilities envisioned by our founding fathers.
