Windows 7 Performance
Microsoft has developed six different versions of Windows 7 over time and each progressive edition includes all the features of its predecessor while showcasing new capabilities unique to that particular edition. The six versions of Windows 7 are the Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. Each user can choose the version of Windows 7 that is most suitable for his requirements. The Starter version supports only the 32 Bit processor architecture while all the other versions support both 32 Bit and 64 Bit processor architecture.
Windows 7 developer, Microsoft, states that features across all editions are stored in the computer regardless of which version is in use and all that the users have to do is to upgrade to the edition they want and the relevant features will be unlocked. Windows 7 Starter
This is the first in the series of Windows 7 suite and consists of the fewest features. One important aspect to this edition is that it does not support 64 Bit variant. The visual styles cannot be changed and the desktop wallpaper stays the same. This edition has no Windows Aero theme included in it. Computer manufacturers and system integrators pre-install this edition of Windows 7 on computers, especially netbooks. The performance here is intended to be at the basic level.
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Basic is available only in countries which are known as the emerging markets, such as China, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil, the Philippines, India, Thailand, Russia and Turkey. The product is geared to each region and users are required to adhere to geographical activation restrictions according to the country or region. Some Aero options as well as several innovative features are not available in this product. Performance here is at a minimum level.
Windows 7 Home Premium
The Windows 7 Home Premium edition targets the home market segment. This edition contains Windows Aero, Windows Media Center and has touch screen controls. The performance of this edition is ideal for home users.
Windows 7 Professional
This version of the Windows 7 is mainly used by small businesses and computer aficionados who tend to spend a lot of time with their computers. All the features of the Windows 7 Home Premium and in addition have many other useful features. Users are able to participate in a Windows Server domain and operate as a Remote Desktop server. To top off these features it also provides location aware printing, Presentation Mode, Windows XP Mode, Software Restriction Policies and an Encrypting File System. The performance here is highly satisfactory with many user-friendly features.
Windows 7 Enterprise
This edition is geared to the needs of companies in the enterprise market and can be obtained through volume licensing. For this, the user should have a Software Assurance contract with Microsoft as this edition is not available through retail or OEM channels. Due to this reason this edition includes several benefits available only for those using Software Assurance that allows licensed running of multiple virtual machines and activation via VLK. Performance if geared to the needs of the enterprise segment.
Windows 7 Ultimate
This edition provides home users with the same features of Windows 7 Enterprise and is available on the basis of an individual license. Windows 7 Professional and Home Premium users can upgrade to this edition for a better performing operating system. The performance here is the same as in the Enterprise edition other than the fact that it is made for the individual.
