Windows Phone 7 for HTC HD2

Posted: Jan 17, 2011 |Comments: 0 | Views: 170 |

Can we now announce the death of Windows Mobile 6.X on HTC HD2? Perhaps, Windows Phone 7 is a dramatic departure from the menu system of Windows Mobile. The stylish new OS is intuitive and enjoyable to use, and also easy to customize with apps and features. A hub system neatly arranges the core functions into logical areas. Web browsing on the streamlined Internet Explorer is now super quick, with an agile pinch-to-zoom action and simple bookmark management. Getting to the point quickly, Windows Phone 7 was recently ported to HD2 with a standalone ROM and a couple of impressive work performed by DFT to make this true for the HD2 devices. Microsoft made a hefty jump toward competing with other mobile operating systems and this is possible now to try on HTC HD2 devices.

You should carefully follow the steps required to totally activate your WP7 on HD2 including "Live" services. Before going to the download link let's take a tour throughout the corridors of WP7 starting from Start Screen; swerving the grid of app icons adopted by its rivals, WP7's Start screen is made up of constantly updated "live" tiles. Although not as flexible as Android's approach, this arrangement is still highly customizable with phone features, apps, web links and individual contacts. Kudos to Microsoft for the fresh approach, but "pin" too many tiles on the home screen and you'll be forever scrolling down to find the right one.

Hubs
Six centralized hubs for People, Games, Music +Video, Pictures, Office and Market Place conveniently gather relevant info in one place. But rather than the needlessly fiddly submenus that characterized previous Windows Mobile incarnations, Microsoft has implemented ingenious, looped sliding screens that are actually fun to use and deliver a nice flow to the user experience.

Xbox Live
Those with exisiting Xbox Live accounts can log in and import their avatar and profile, ready to challenge fellow online Xboxers over 3G or Wi-fi, Live-compatible games are thin on the ground right now, but still some are able to challenge the iPhone for mobile fun.

Social Networking
Facebook is seamlessly integrated into the people hub, letting you post comments and add likes. But if you are after more functionality you should download the free Facebook app; designed around the hub's sliding screen interface, it's great to use.

Office

Microsoft hasn't wholly abandoned its productivity past, dedicating a hub to its Office suite. Here, Word and Excel documents can be created (although there is no cut and paste function) and PowerPoint files can also be viewed and edited.

Zune
Like a prettier, less immediate iTunes. It does have the edge with its Spotify-style ZunePass service which lets you stream music to your phone over 3G or Wi-fi for US$15/month.

Network Connections
Wi-fi and 3G/Edge/GPRS was easily and instantly turned on and off and worked quite smoothly. Bluetooth connection worked flawlessly and files transfer worked like silk.

Phone Setting
Where you can configure time, region/location, date, wallpapers, email accounts, brightness, theme, ringtones and sounds.

Sounds
Loud, loud, loud. Sound is very high with new set of ringtones and alerts that can be configured (external ringtones cannot be added, why Microsoft?).

Camera
Don't count on that! Make sure you have your digital camera with you. You can snap pictures nicely but you can't rely on the quality.

HTC Battery
Yes you will notice that the battery drains faster than how it was with Windows Mobile; especially if Wi-fi and Bluetooth are kept on all time.

What happened to us, America? We built the strongest, most prosperous nation in the history of the world by being home to the hardest-working people in history. You used to hear so much about the American Work Ethic, about how people came to the United States, worked crazy-hard, built businesses and created opportunities for entire families and generations of new Americans. That work ethic now seems to be more a part of America's history than a key feature of the nation today....

The United States could very well be on the path towards a deflationary collapse, far worse than America experienced during the Great Depression in the 1930's. However arguably, the likely outcome is going to be even worse. The US is currently on the rails and headed right for hyperinflation and the destruction of the dollar. Overwhelming evidence has been abundant, America has known for a long time this problem exists. Yet the US Government and Federal Reserve have yet to come up with any...

Battery chargers, including NiCad (nickel-cadmium) chargers, usually operate for many years and exceed the lifetime of a NiCad battery. It's likely you will get through three or more NiCad batteries before you have a problem using the charger. However, if you find your battery doesn't charge, check the NiCad charger to diagnose whether it's producing an electrical charge; it may simply need a replacement fuse.

Using rechargeable batteries is a good way to reduce the waste dumped into landfills, because one rechargeable battery can replace dozens of single-use batteries. However, there is a wide variety of battery and battery charger technology available. With the alphabet soup of NiCad, NiMH, and Li-ion batteries available, it can be confusing to know the best options available. Luckily it is not difficult to learn the basics.

Replacement laptop batteries can cost a third, if not more, of the price of a new laptop. Discounted prices constantly offered on new laptops often result in people choosing a new laptop instead of a replacement battery, even though the laptop is fine. Build an external laptop battery using lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries to save a lot of money and keep your existing laptop. Wire a few LiPo cells in series and your laptop will be ready to go.

Rechargeable batteries have grown in use over the years as people are looking to save money and reduce waste. There are several types of rechargeable batteries, made of lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, nickel-hydride or other materials. For years, it was believed that rechargeable batteries had the advantage of being reusable but were poor performers compared to their alkaline counterparts. Rechargeable batteries have improved, but they still have both advantages and disadvantages.

A lithium-ion battery is a rechargeable battery used mostly for consumer electronics. Because it can be recharged, it is secondary battery. Lithium-ion batteries are not lithium batteries, which are primary, or not rechargeable, batteries. The lithium-ion battery is sometimes called "li-ion." The battery gets its name from the lithium ion that moves between an anode and a cathode, two of the primary components of the battery.
