3 Tips For College Success
Treat it like a job
College should be treated like a job. You should plan to be on campus for at least 8 to 9 hours each day. If you're not in class you should find a quiet place to study or do homework. By treating college like a job you will take your schoolwork much more seriously and you will have free time in the evening to spend time with newly found friends. You must show up to work every day so it is important to show up to class every day. If you are sick, email your professor before class, obtain an excuse from the doctor and ask a friend for notes. Falling behind due to non-attendance is one of the quickest ways a student can fail a course.
Visit your professors
By getting to know your professors you are bettering your future. You will feel more comfortable going to the professor during his or her office hours for help. The professor will also get to know your face and your name. Sometimes it is hard for a professor to know every student in every class but by getting to know your professor and allowing him or her to get to know you they will be able to pick you out of a crowd. Another reason why it is a good idea to visit your professors is in the case that you are 1 or 2 points away from earning a higher grade. Sometimes professors remember your name and the fact that you sought help from them during the academic period. By seeking help from a professor throughout the quarter or semester it shows that you were really trying and he or she may boost your grade with a few extra points.
Time Management
It is really important to know how to manage your time in college. Have a schedule mapped out for your entire week. For every credit hour a student is in class he or she is required to do 3 hours of outside work which could include labs, homework, reading and more. My first suggestion to students is to always buy a planner, if anything, this will help a student be more organized and keep track of assignments that are due and what days they have class. If you're not the type of person to use a planner make a spreadsheet of a 16 week semester or 10 week quarter (don't forget finals week) and write every assignment down that you have in every class. This should all be on a one page paper where you can easily tape above your desk for quick reference. Time management is the key to college success!
Succeeding in college really isn't that hard, and as long as you have self discipline, and you want to learn, you're going to find that the success will come to you. Those that sit back, treat it like a joke, and think it's High School are the ones that are going to have the troubles getting by.
