Behavior Modification the Key to a Successful Program

A behavior modification is a private, residential education to which parents send adolescents perceived as displaying asocial behavior in an attempt to alter their conduct.

Behavior Modification is part of a behavioral tradition developed by Pavlov in the early part of the twentieth century. These approaches were later incorporated with cognitive behavior therapy as developed by researchers.

Today, there are many branches and schools of thought with varying terminology as regards Behavior Modification therapy. Generally however, Behavior Modification therapy as we know it today is defined as the use of rewards or punishments to reduce or eliminate problematic behavior, and can teach new responses to an individual in response to environmental stimuli.

Behavior Modification Program to help get teens back on track and functioning. Students are required to maintain high standards. Appropriate behavior is encouraged, reinforced and rewarded. Poor behavior brings immediate consequences. The philosophy of the program is to offer each child a basis for making responsible choices in the future.
The goal of a program of behavior modification is to change and adjust behavior that is inappropriate or undesirable in some way. When embarking on a program of behavior modification with a child, it is important is that the undesirable behavior be isolated and observed. This awareness also come the greater goal of understanding the cause and effect of the behaviors, thus helping to affect change. Behavior modification facilities are highly controversial.

The behavior modification methodologies used vary, but typically, a combination of positive and negative reinforcement is used. Positive reinforcement mechanisms include points, rewards and signs of status, while negative reinforcement may include time-outs, point deductions, reversal of status, and prolonged stays at a facility, physical restraint, or even corporal punishment.
