ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is one of the most common childhood disorders. Like the name suggests, a child is unable to focus their attention on one specific task and their impulses are usually wild to say the least. Some of the good news is that a child with ADHD may outgrow it during the teenage years but some are not so lucky. The bad news is that with increased age, the condition is usually severe and the effects are long term.
When writing a college paper on ADHD, the most important thing is to collect all the needed data and compile it in the citation style needed. Discussed below are some of the facts relating to ADHD and may be included in a research paper involving the disorder. First of all it is not easy to determine whether a child has ADHD or not because unlike the other pathological ailments that can be established with laboratory tests, this one depends on careful evaluation of conduct and behavior and the final answer is usually given via an informed guess. The behavioral study concentrates on some behavior that is peculiar and uncommon with healthy children. Classic examples include constant fidgeting, difficulty in maintaining a seated position, easily distracted by even the slightest of things, giving out answers in a non-orderly manner in a classroom situation and cannot play quietly. These are not all of them but they are among the most common signs.
There are some ways that the disorder can be approached. Since basically hyperactivity is a condition caused by an excited central nervous system, a drug that can calm the system is usually administered. These are just theoretical approaches since medical scientists are still trying to figure out what exactly causes the disorder. It could be some head injury that occurred or some brain damage facilitated by an infection. Some researchers go further to add the increased consumption of processed foods as a contributor to the disorder. But again these are all theoretical possibilities and the real cause has not really been fully established. ADHD does not affect too many children and the percentage lies to 3-5 % of a country´s childhood population.
One fact that should be understood is that there is no clear cut cure for ADHD and the medication given is only supposed to stimulate the central nervous system to heal on its own. The drugs work as neurotransmitters and like earlier indicated, ´slow down´ the central nervous system. There are many side effects associated with these drugs and some common ones include insomnia and decreased appetite. Not all parents are comfortable with giving their children medication at such age and those who prefer alternatives often go for therapies that are aimed at alleviating the condition.
With that kind of information, you can be able to compile a research paper on ADHD making sure that you cite all the sources and format in the style that is required. Giving of survey findings is always essential in such a research paper.
