Choosing a college is not an easy thing to do. But today, it has become more difficult since a new type of college has appeared – online distance learning. So, what should a student do when opting for this or that type of college? He/she should read the following advice and take it into consideration when choosing a college.

Pros and cons of conventional education

Every type of education has its advantages and drawbacks. Here are a number of positive points of traditional on-campus education:

1.Traditional colleges provide campus for students to live in. A student does not have internet access, so traditional education just fits the bill for him/her.

2.Conventional colleges provide personal interaction with professors and students. Leaving campus on rare occasions helps to feel a part of the whole and stay motivated in academic life.

However, there are a number of disadvantages of traditional types of colleges:

1.Conventional learning presupposes sticking to a strict schedule and attending classes. People who work and want to get additional education would find it a big disadvantage.

2.Traditional colleges also require much time and do not suit for adult students who have a full-time job.

3.For busy students and foreigners who can not attend college every day, online option is preferable.

Pros and cons of online education

Distance education is beneficial in many ways:

1.It does not require class attendance. Or rather it does not require attendance of real lectures but online classes. A student may make up his/her own timetable and study at nights if he/she want to.

2.It does not require so much time and allows for having a full-time job.

3.It is designed mostly for adult learners who want to get additional qualification of higher degree.

To disadvantages of online education belong:

1.Less-motivated students tend to complete tasks given without proper learning.

2.Online education requires certain computer and internet skills and equipment, which may be difficult for some students.

3.Finally, online learning does not give a lot of personal communication and feeling of engagement into full student life.
