CSAT brings the new challenge to the Civil Services Aspirants
Civil Services Examinationis one of the prestigious examinations that held every year for the selection of Civil servants of India. Thousands of aspirants every year prepare for this exam. The exam has two stages - Preliminary and mains.
This year, UPSC has introduces a new pattern of exam for the preliminary stage and its called Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) The exam will be having two papers – first paper tests the general knowledge of the candidates and the second paper tests the general aptitude including the reasoning and comprehension skills.
CSAT will bring an aptitude test for all that will decide who is eligible for mains exam. UPSC has decided to get away from prelims and has included CSAT replacing that, format, sample papers, syllabus for CSAT and mains exam will remain same.
CSAT 2011 will be going to take place on June 12th, 2011. Aspirants can get notification information from all leading newspapers on February 19, 2011. As per last year data, more number of aspirants are likely to take test this year. Over 3, 000, 00 candidates are supposed to give this year Civil Service Aptitude Test. About 11,000 successful candidates would be selected for mains exam that is expected to take place in October 2011.
Pattern for CSAT
CSAT has got two compulsory papers of 200 marks each which are of two hours duration. Questions are objective type. Exam will be having General Mathematics, Logic and Reasoning and English Language. There are also chances that some portion of general studies also gets included in Civil Services Aptitude Test.

- Current events of national and international importance
- History of India and Indian National Movement
- Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
- General Science.
Second Paper examines your Logical Reasoning skills, Decision making skills, problem solving skills, Communication skills, mental ability, analytical ability/Comprehension skills, numerical aptitude, Data interpretation, English Language Comprehension skills.

- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. -Class X level)
