Early childhood is a critical time for children to develop good social, mental, emotional and physical skills. The games children play, the activities that they do and, the things that they see and the things that they hear all affect what kind of lessons they learn. Consequently, early childhood games also affect how well their brains and motor skills develop.

Most parents are very eager to help their children grow as much as they can. Parents want their children to have confidence, to be talented, to make good friends, to succeed in school and -- most of all -- to be happy. The challenge lies in knowing the best ways to help them develop all the skills that they need and even in knowing when to let them grow on their own.

Fortunately, child development has been a professional field of study for many years now. This means that parents can have volumes of advice and guides at their fingertips with just a little effort spent searching for the information that they need. Researching the importance of early child development can even help parents know which questions to ask.

For example, parents can learn the answers to questions like "What are the best ways to teach my child," "What ages coincide with which developmental stages," and "What skills do different activities teach?" Questions like these can help parents be more effective teachers themselves since they are the usually people most aware of their child's needs.

There is a lot of emphasis placed on academic achievement these days as schools become increasingly competitive. Proper education on elements that promote child development can help parents incorporate the right daily activities in their child's day.

For example, along with well-planned lessons, study, and school, play is one of the most valuable tools for child development during early childhood. Although flashcards, reading, math games and other planned lessons are all effective tools in teaching children skills, pretend play is also a valuable instrument that cultivates imagination and social skills. Unless parents knew the importance of play in child development, it could easily be squeezed out of a schedule and replaced with other activities that don't meet the same needs.

When children are young they absorb information and skills as readily as a sponge. Their naturally curious tendencies make them question and explore the world around them. There are only a certain number of hours in each day though, so parents can help their children learn faster and better with early childhood games and activities designed to cultivate a wide variety of skills.
