ESL Bingo Worksheets

Lots of people who do not speak English natively, want to either learn English or improve their skills in the language. This might be for business or professional reasons, perhaps because they want to travel or immigrate to an English speaking country, or just because they are interested. Whatever the reason is that they want to learn the language, one of the best ways to do is to attend an English a Second Language (known for short as a "ESL") class.

ESL classes are usually intended for adult learners, and often involve a variety of enjoyable but worthwhile activities intended to improve skills in reading, writing, listening to, and speaking in English. Particular classes might focus on particular subjects of interest, for example the vocabulary used in business and finance, or learning the English necessary for a visit to an English-speaking restaurant.

One particular activity that many ESL teachers have introduced into their classes is the game of ESL bingo. This is played almost exactly like a normal game of bingo (with the teacher taking the part of bingo caller, and the students each being given a bingo card or worksheet), but with one key modification: the bingo cards are printed with words relating to a chosen topic, rather than numbers. It is a good way to learn vocabulary, it's a lot of fun, and if the game itself is played entirely in English, it helps with all round English speaking skills, not just with learning the words used on the bingo cards.

When you think about it, bingo is actually ideal for teaching. Firstly, it does not require expensive materials. Secondly, the game play can easily be customized - for example, by using different words on the bingo cards, or by the teacher giving definitions of words, rather than calling out the words directly.

Dinosaur Footprints

We know a lot about dinosaurs because of the fossils that they left. The best-known fossils are of course the bones, teeth and horns (and sometimes soft body parts such as skin impressions) of the dinosaurs, which are of course displayed in many different museums around the world. Sometimes dinosaurs also left fossils, known as trace fossils (technically "ichnofossils"), which show their activities during life - these include fossilized dung (known as "coprolites"), nests, burrows, toothmarks, a

Math Bingo

By: Sunil Tanna | 18/09/2009 | K-12 Education
When learning arithmetic, repeatedly doing sums for a long period, with little variation, can soon get boring for many students. Before long, their attention can start to wonder, and as we all know - this is not conducive to learning. Quite the opposite, students generally learn best when enjoying the subject, and as a result many math teachers have introduced a variety of math games into their classrooms - and one such game that is very popular is math bingo.
