The free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program for Florida was signed as law in January 2005. Instructors for the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program given during the school year should have an associate’s degree in child development, or an associate’s degree or higher in an unrelated field with six credit hours on child development or early childhood education plus 480 hours of experience in education or child care for children up to age eight.

Instructors for the Summer VPK Program should hold a current Florida Educator Certificate, or a Bachelor's Degree or higher in any of the following: early childhood education, pre-kindergarten or primary education, preschool education, or family and consumer science.
