CBSE Students now have one more option to choose from apart from the conventional medical, non-medical, commerce, arts streams. From this session, CBSE is introduced financial market management (FMM) as a course for plus one students. In countries like UK and USA the financial education starts from Class VI onwards.
The main objective of the course is to develop professional competency and employable skills in financial market management. Chief coordinator, course committee and HOD, EDUSAT CBSE, said, "We are introducing this professional course from 2007-08 academic session. At this juncture, it is more appropriate for developing course on financial market as there is a huge employment potential in this area.
We want to offer flexibility to students and that's why we are exploring more relevant options. We hope that this course helps a large number of youth to acquire employable skills and to enter world of work for decent livelihoods and for economic growth of the country." Moving with the market, he said, "In future more new courses will be offered depending upon the demand of the market."
The FMM will consist of three compulsory professional subjects each in classes XI and XII in addition to two academic electives one of which must be a language. Though not compulsory, students taking up this package would be advised to offer Functional English for Language-1.
For the second elective there are three optional academic subjects. They can choose any one subject of their choice to maintain the vertical mobility for pursuing higher studies. The students may further opt for an additional sixth subject which can either be a language or an academic elective or a professional subject.
The curriculum includes accounting for business, introduction for financial market, business process outsourcing skills, computer applications in financial markets, economics, etc. The curriculum would be revised periodically as per the demand of the market.
Mostly, the teachers of economics, accountancy will be teaching these subjects. "There are various options available for students, who wish to pursue this course. Options are at galore in fields like trading, marketing, bank offices, IT sector, finance and audit companies, BPO sector etc," added Bhushan.
