Meg writes about a variety of subjects including educational posters and the use of educational posters in primary schools.
Posters are used worldwide to inform, teach, warn and educate people. They are used in schools for the same reason. Children need to be informed, warned and taught about many things and posters are a fun way to teach them. Using posters as a teaching aid helps the teacher in that they do not have to keep repeating information.
Children learn in several different ways; one important way is through visualize perception. When children can see a poster they often know immediately what it represents. If they don’t, a few words of explanation from the teacher will soon get them on the right track. Seeing a poster is a more vivid way of teaching than simply telling. Though some children do take in the spoken word easily, others need to see it written down, or view a picture that tells them the same thing.
Using educational posters is a fun and attractive way of teaching about different things. You might simply want the message to go out that bullying is not allowed; using posters is a good way to do this. Posters can tell the child where to go for what subject, thus saving time and effort for teachers.
What are the elements of educational posters? There is text, though some posters need no words. Text should be brief and to the point. Sometimes one or two words is enough, because there are also pictures that are self-explanatory. There can be one or two pictures and sometimes they are opposites. For instance a poster about bullying might show two children holding hands and another picture with a child being pushed over. The second picture will have a cross drawn over it to demonstrate that such behaviour is unacceptable.
Educational posters can also have graphs, charts or maps, depending on what topic is represented. Maths charts often make it easier to children to learn their times tables and other aspects of math. Colour is an important aspect of educational posters. The use of colour makes a poster both eye-catching and informative, helping the student to understand whether this is good or bad.
Colour is used to warn people of hot/cold and stop/go. The same colours are used in educational posters for similar reasons. Posters that are meant to warn of danger are often red or black. Those that tell about saving energy are frequently green. Yellow is often meant to present something fun and happy, while orange often represents heat. Whatever message is needed, educational posters are a fun and colourful way of getting it across to our children.

Learning a second language is much easier at this age, so we are told. So we can see just how important it is to educate our children properly in those preschool years, but to do this we need excellent resources.

What is a Blackline Master?
By: Meg Smith | 26/10/2009 | K-12 EducationA Blackline master is a resource book usually bought by schools for their students to use. It can be about any topic from math to reading; poetry to comprehension. If the school were to purchase a book for each of its students, the cost would be astronomical. Photocopying is the answer. But to buy one book and make many copies of the pages is actually a breach of copyright.
