Gain Business Directions for Students

In centuries past, there was no middle class. People still had to have occupations, so they often worked as an apprentice for someone who was already skilled in a given occupation. For instance, if someone wanted to be a cobbler (shoemaker), he worked to gain an apprenticeship with the local cobbler. If he wanted to be a blacksmith, he gained an apprenticeship with the best blacksmith in town. In reality, most people were born into the occupation they would later work, because they had few freedoms and choices in those days. University training education was unheard of. Only the rich and famous had the chance to study for an advanced degree back then.

Leap forward a few hundred years to a modern world that those skilled craftsmen of old would not recognize. Most shoes are now made in manufacturing companies on an assembly line. There are very few blacksmiths left.

In the last century, schools began offering general education diplomas. Vocational training and training the trainer courses happened after high school. If people wanted to go on to a university education, they had no preparation in high school other than general classes.

Times are changing. The world we live in is now so complicated that educators are seeing the value of going back to an apprentice model of education. Now, many high schools offer business, management training, hr training and other courses that prepare students for entry-level positions at businesses all over Australia.

Some students know early what career they want to do in life. Those students are well served by classes offered at their high school. High schools are now offering business courses that will allow the use students to graduate with that business focus listed on their diploma. The government and most businesses recognize these diplomas as equal to post high school vocational training.

The advantages are obvious for the student. They no longer have to wait a year or more to go find a good job. With competition increasing for good business jobs, having a business certification on a high school diploma puts students ahead of people who did not get that education. Students are able to complete the required coursework before they graduate so that they are ready for the working world immediately.

Students who want to go on to the university and study business will have fewer years ahead of them to obtain their advanced degree. This factor alone may increase the numbers of students applying to universities after graduation from high school.
