Georgia is strongly connected with the history of the United States, big business corporations, and famous Southern hospitality. The Peach State is abundant both in the monuments of American past, battlefields and other historic sites, and in alluring beaches and hiking trails. If you want to experience something really unique and joyful, do not hesitate to travel to Georgia.
The most well-known event in the history of Georgia is probably its participation in the American Civil War on Confederacy part. Almost everything on the way from Atlanta to Savannah was burnt by General Sherman`s army`s "March to the Sea". This became the inspiration for the literary masterpiece and then movie “Gone With the Wind”, which action is placed in Atlanta`s neighboring Marietta. You should visit the Marietta Museum dedicated to “Gone With the Wind” in order to see the stunning exhibition related to the event.
It must be mentioned that Sherman decided not to set Savannah on fire when the mayor gave his soldiers full freedom in the city. This is of incredible importance to us because in this way Savannah managed to preserve the genuine antebellum architecture and its charm of one of the first cities settled in this area. Now this is a city of diversity and variety, famous for its night life as well as Savannah College of Arts and Design, numerous cultural events, festivals and historically important places.
For those, who are fond of various outdoor activities, the Peach State is ready to offer the lush landscape and winding ways of the Appalachian Trail. You can enjoy its hiking trails starting from Springer Mountain. Once meant only for the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers, Jekyll Island with its 5 miles of luxurious beaches and condos is now open to everybody.
Georgia is also famous for its modern history, or better to say for its natives who won international fame: President Jimmy Carter and Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the first to fight for the civil rights of the African-American population. There are National Historic Sites dedicated to both of them and each includes their home and other memorable places connected with these important figures.
A trip to the Peach State is a journey through historic epochs, which at the same time offers you all the comforts of modern travel. Here you can find anything to your liking – from the charm of green and sunny countryside to the sparkling skyscrapers of expanding cities, so Georgia is waiting for you!
