Getting Started in Your New Profession by Looking for New Graduate RN Jobs

Posted: Jan 28, 2011 |
If you are a recent graduate of a nursing program you're likely to be slightly overwhelmed by the many choices ahead. It's important for you to be aware of exactly where your career can take you, and where you need to begin to get there. Looking at new graduate RN jobs will help you to understand the best places to get your feet wet and how to get yourself started on your exciting and future career.

You can find a few different entry level jobs that a Registered Nurse can take once they have graduated from their program and passed their NCLEX-RN exam. Some elect to take on a nursing assistant position, hoping to get more information by assisting one of the nurses in the hospital. This is in most cases an entry level position for persons who have only done 2 years of a nursing program, however, and it's somewhat below the beninner level jobs available to RNs.

Most new Registered Nurses are likely to take fulltime positions as a nurse in a hospital setting or doctor's office. Nurses is going to have different responsibilities based on their level of skill and experience. In other words new graduates are probably going to take the more basic nursing jobs that require simpler requirements. These nurses will be expected to take vital signs and record patient information. Apart from that, the job depends upon the place of employment.

Some hospitals and offices will rely on new graduate RNs to provide medication to patients. Others will ask the nurses to talk to patients about their medication, and the problems they are up against. They will likely work with patients and help them to understand their nutritional and exercise requirements or restrictions due to their injury, illness, or medications they are taking. Other hospitals and offices will likely rely upon the nurses for clerical work. New nurses are normally put in a position that mixes clerical work with nursing duties. The offices and hospitals do depend on these nurses in emergencies or during busy hours, however, giving these nurses the hands-on training they've been looking for.

New Graduate RN positions are available, and will pay well. Nurses can make, an average of, $62,000 a year. Entry level nurses often see starting salaries around the $40,000 or $50,000 mark, but will see raises and increased salaries at a fairly rapid rate.

In spite of the struggling marketplace, the nursing career path is growing. New graduates should expect to find a wealth of jobs as they enter into the job market. The nursing field is anticipated to grow by over 20 % in the next ten years. This number is roughly estimated at 500,000 jobs, opening up a job market for any interested parties. Many nurses will work in physician's offices or take on jobs in home healthcare services. People who are interested in working in a hospital should know that the number of job opening for hospitals is expected to slow. With that being said, new graduate RN positions will continue to grow in all fields, giving recent graduates the opportunity to jump into their career.
