How Our Children Are Being Kept Safe At School And College

Someone once sang about children being our future. This article looks at how the education sector is using technology to make sure our children are as safe as possible.

Safety in schools and colleges throughout the world and making sure children and staff are protected and safe at all times is vital as the world in which we live in changes. If the media are to be believed, violence alcohol consumption and drug abuse is on the increase in schools and colleges. So with this in mind, what is most important thing about the education system? Well depending on whether you are a student, head teacher, governor, regulator or parent your answer to this question well be very different. However it is very likely that making sure everyone is safe features high at the top of everyones given answer.

Making sure our schools, nurseries, kindergartens, colleges and universities are safe environments is vital so with safety a major issue in modern places of learning what steps are schools taking to make sure their establishment is as safe as possible?

Here are just 4 ways in which schools, colleges and universities can now technology to make sure their pupils and teachers are as safe as possible:

CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television)

With over 4.2 million CCTV cameras in the United Kingdom alone this method of security is now common place. For schools, CCTV allows property and people to be monitored and a further advance in CCTV technology has seen the introduction of talking CCTV systems which give potential intruders or trouble makers a verbal warning. These types of systems can prove highly effective in schools to disburse potential trouble makers.

Security Lighting

Children and teachers often start and end school in darkness (or dusk) during the winter months so having suitable lighting is vital for safety. Security lighting works as it gives pupils and teachers more confidence by providing a safe and well lit environment as well as deterring would be criminals and trouble makers.

Intruder Alarms

Intruder alarms work extremely well in the education sector as depending on the type of alarm you have it can alert other teachers, school workers, school children and the police to potential or trouble occurring.

The result is often that whatever caused the alarm to be activated, stops. And the school premises, staff and pupils stay safe.
