Massage Schools

Find Massage Schools and Massage Therapy Schools in the United States and Canada. Massage schools are learning institutions and colleges that offer alternative health education and training to students who are searching for a unique academic opportunity.

Today, massage schools are growing in numbers as the demand for complementary medicine is on the rise. Prospective candidates who possess an interest in helping to heal people naturally will find that becoming a certified massage therapist is not only professionally rewarding but personally satisfying as well.

While enrolled in one of several massage schools, students can expect a course of study that may last anywhere from 300 to over 1,000 class and clinical hours. Depending on independent massage schools and course offerings, students may even opt to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in therapeutic massage therapy. This particular line of study may take up to two years to complete.

In addition to practical training in a variety of bodywork modalities, common classes that are provided in massage schools may consist of basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathophysiology, human relations, business and small business management, and other related subjects.

The additional benefit of taking part in massage schools is that students will be introduced to, and gain hands-on training in a vast assortment of massage techniques. Some of the more common body therapies offered in massage schools include Swedish massage therapy, deep tissue massage and reflexology. More advanced courses extended through massage schools may be comprised of polarity therapy, sports massage, integrative therapy, neuromuscular therapy, connective tissue massage, lymphatic drainage massage, Shiatsu, Lomi Lomi massage, hydrotherapy, spa and aromatherapy massage and other massage modalities.

Furthermore, students in massage schools may opt to enroll in related specialty electives such as herbal medicine and essential oils to further expand their client offerings. Successful graduates of massage schools may go onto becoming certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). According to the US Department of Labor Statistics, job outlook is promising for certified massage therapists who have received adequate training through one of several massage schools.
