Phobia relates to fear developed by a person towards a particular thing or issue. Though it sounds weird, it is very natural for people to suffer from one or the other kind of phobias. For general people, phobia may sound silly, but that is the truth. A person will have phobia for one or the other things.
The most common phobia known to people is called claustrophobia. It means people are afraid of closed places. It could be a dark room or enclosed space. If people are put inside such places, they will surely be afraid. Similarly, there is another phobia relating to water. It is called hydrophobia. The word hydrophobia relates to fear of water. For some people, hydrophobia is quite natural for some others it is acquired. The hydrophobia develops whenever people accidentally fall into water when they are not in a position to swim to the shore. The only way through which one can overcome hydrophobia is to build strong resistance. Sometimes, building resistance could backfire against an individual. Therefore, the resistance building process is should be slow and gradual.
Hydrophobia also hits people suffering from rabies. It is the terminal stage of the infection. The hydrophobia is so intense that people suffering from rabies even refuse to consume water leading to terminal illness. However, so far, no cure has been found for hydrophobia.
Another kind of phobia is the fear of heights. This phobia is called vertigo. People are afraid to stand at heights and look down. People suffering from vertigo are recommended not to take up hobbies such as mountaineering or rock climbing.
Some people have fear against animals and they are very specific. For instances, people are afraid of spiders. This particular condition is called arachnophobia. It is well researched topic and people are often found to be suffering from arachnophobia. This is more profound among people found in the American continent where a variety of spiders are found. Another enhanced form of phobia is related to cockroaches. This particular phobia is displayed the most among people these days. This phobia in particular is found to be the highest among people across the world in most of the countries.
Some people are also afraid of creepy and crawly things such as a snakes, lizards and worms. This is the second most common phobia among the general public. However, no cure is available for this phobia. People think it is common for them to have multiple phobias. They are displayed at different times in different zones depending on the situation. For instance, some people fear rats and there is nothing wrong in it. People dread rats because of their crawly nature. However, for fear of rats too, there is no cure. The only way a person can overcome the problem is to build resistance as much as possible. However, physicians suggest people against building resistance for phobias.
