Looking at employment from the point of view of the worker, the first thing that she/he needs is a job. The next thing is some information about what to do on the job. After that there is the need for work skills such as computer literacy. The three "R’s” are always needed and their need should always be pointed out. Finally some sort of indication is needed that success, in the new work position, is possible.
One of the issues in being successful at the job is the matter of getting along with others. As family priorities change, the matter of "civil deportment" is often not taught in the home as was formerly the case. This produces students and prospective employees who do not know the common rules of deportment. For this reason and others, they often do not get along well with their peers.
Teaching these skills in school my be something for the educational system to seriously consider. High School ROTC programs are useful in teaching comportment, where they are available.
Another issue is "What constitutes computer literacy"? Specifically, does "computer literacy" include the ability to use spreadsheet programs? It is the opinion of the author that spreadsheet knowledge is an important component of computer literacy.
In most High Schools, there are no classes that teach students how to wait on customers at a retail store. Nor are there classes on how to work in the kitchen of a fast food restaurant. Such skills as mentioned above not only provide useful skills, but convey the message that staying in school can be helpful in obtaining a job after High School.
While it is recognized that High Schools are obligated to teach the basic requirements, they also have the requirement to make the student employable. This function they are not fulfilling. Often this is because the High School is not having an ongoing dialoge with the local business community. Such contact is important to insure that the courses offered by the High School meet the needs of the work place.

VB script for Excel spreadsheet printing
By: JtotheA | 08-04-2008
I wish to write a vba script I can run for a spreadsheet in MS Excel that only prints only the rows for a column (let's say columnd) where the cells are not null (or zero). The reason for this is that the rows total more than 100, and printing things out for only 20 actually needed entries seem silly. Before anyone asks, MS Access is not an option.

Changing VALUE#! to zero in google speardsheet
By: King_Cobra_Show | 06-01-2007
I have created a spreadsheet for calculating my work hours. I used a pretty simple formula to calculate the sum of hours I worked by the time of the beginning and the end of my shift. When I'm using Openoffice calc, the cell with formula of summing the hours gets the value of 0 if the source cells are empty, but when I imported it to Google Doc it gets the error value of VALUE#! .Is there any way to change this error value back to zero?
Trying to rename Y axis labels in a clustered bar graph in Microsoft Excel
By: Ecrivaine32 | 04-12-2006
How do I rename the Y axis labels of an already created and inserted standard clustered bar chart in Excel? To create the chart, I selected a string of cell data from my spreadsheet (one cell each with the total number of data for each month), and I want each month, separately, Jan. through Dec., to appear in Excel on the vertical left side of this chart; however, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. When I created the chart with this data, the Y axis labels defaulted to the numbers 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13 shown on the left side axis, and I cannot figure out how to separate them into components of one month each and to have them display as words and not numbers. Thanks.
