Selecting An Educational Path And A College: One Of The Most Important Decisions Of Your Life

Posted: Jan 26, 2011 |
Selecting an university and career path might be just as crucial as selecting a life partner: once you've chosen, there's no going back. The education you receive today will not only affect the rest of your life, but also you career, your loved ones as well as your future choices. You will have to make career decisions and moves depending on your degree. Your education most probably establishes the route your life is going to take. Everything can be taken from a person, besides their memories, knowledge, values and education. It's something no one will ever be able to take away from you, and that can be a good or a very bad thing. Your university experience and memories will be with you forever. If you choose the wrong career path now, it will haunt you for the remainder of your life. Whatever you decide on now will be your destiny.

I believe that a person ought to be doing what they love the most: if you love music, take a training course that will propel you into the music business. If you like sports, select one of the many sports management courses available, so that you can have the skills to land that dream job one day. If you absolutely hate accounting, but your dad wants you to study it, don't do it. It's your life. Your father has lived his life, he got a chance to do what he wanted, and if he didn't, it was his fault, because no-one can ever force you to do anything that you don't want to do. Yes, Yes , it isn't that simple, but think it over: You only live once. You have between 70 and 80 years, maybe 90 if you are lucky, to live and adore doing it. So, are you going to be depressed behind the accounting books for the remainder of your life? Or are you going to make your life worthy of living. All of these things have to be considered before you choose an university, and more importantly, a study course or direction.

To make sure you make the right choice, there are a few things to think about before choosing an university. Firstly, exactly why do you want to attend university? Is it simply to have fun, or do you wish to secure an optimistic future for yourself? What do you want to study? Would you enjoy sports management courses, music courses, accounting courses? Make a list of reasons and interests to see if you're doing it for the right reasons. The next thing you should think of is how much money you will need to invest in these courses. Are you going to have sufficient funds to finish them or are you going to need to take up an extra job to pay them off?

There are so many things to consider when applying for a specific program. The best thing about it all is that you are the only person that can make that selection. So, go ahead and take leap: have a look at those music or sports management courses. Have a look at the accounting courses. And then make a decision; based on what you want and need. In the end, what you want is what's best for you.
