Nursing assistants are the lowest rank among all the nurses seen in a hospital. In the early days they were hired without any training and they used to get all the training on the job. Getting advantage of this, many nurses join a hospital, get the training and then leave to work somewhere else to get more pay, so the employers started signing a contract but when this idea was failed, they made it their rule to only hire a certified nursing assistant. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) has all the training and they can get to work without any further training.

If you want to become a CNA then you should first get to know what they do and what cna training is required. Certified nursing assistants help the patients with all their daily routine tasks like feeding, cleaning, moving in and out of bed , changing bed sheets and many other similar tasks. It is also their duty to help the patient with bed pan and also give him bed bath if necessary. They also have to keep monitoring patient's condition so that the doctor can be informed if any unexpected change occurs in patient's condition.

There are many colleges available all over the country offering various types of nursing assistant programs. You can choose any college for your training but it is advised that before starting your training, you make sure that the institute is accredited by the state's board of nursing. The standard nursing assistant programs can easily be completed in about two months. You can also join online nursing assistant programs for your training; these online programs will allow you to attend your classes in the comfortable environment of your home. You can also join a nursing home for your training. There are many nursing homes which offer you free training but they make you sign a contract which will restrict you to only work with them after becoming a certified nursing assistant. These nursing homes also pay you less during this time period to get pay back.

After completing your training you are required to appear in an exam. This exam is divided in two parts; the first part will test your theoretical knowledge, for this part of exam you will be given 50 questions with four choices of answers and you will be required to select the correct one. It is advised that you do not guess the answer because there is also negative marking. The second part of the exam is related to candidate's practical skills, for this part the candidate will be taken to a ward and there he/she would get different situation to deal with.

Once you pass this exam you will become a certified nursing assistant who gets a job far more easily than non certified nursing assistants. A newly certified nursing assistant earns about 15 dollar per hour which is a high pay scale. These nurses usually work for 40 hours a week in different shifts. These nurses might get to work on weekends, holidays and nights.
