If you've been researching salon and beauty schools and would like to pursue your potential career in cosmetology, esthetics, or nail technology, Salon Professional Academy (Buffalo, NY) extends comprehensive career training programs in all three professional fields. "We're centrally located if you are looking for easy access," says Kathy Ulrich, admissions coordinator of Salon Professional Academy.

Students enrolled in the 1,000-hour cosmetology course at Salon Professional Academy can complete the program in less than 18 months, and in as little time as eight months. Boasting the academy's professional backing from Redken, Ulrich says, "Our school is set up like a real salon. We teach Redken principles in hair design, coloring systems, Michael Cole's "Levels Program" (level system and goal tracking program that allows students to measure success), and KRS business strategies." In this course of study, students learn about anatomy and physiology, hair analysis, hair and scalp disorders and disease, chemistry (in relation to cosmetology), product knowledge, hair cutting, shaping, styling, chemical restructuring, coloring, and lightening, as well as nail and skin care procedures.

"I think you're seeing [cosmetology] becoming more and more popular for creative people," Ulrich adds. "When it comes to actually going to college, [students] want to channel their creativity into this atmosphere -- they may have a great eye for color, makeup artistry... hands-on learners come to these fields to take advantage of these programs." Today, professional cosmetologists can earn over $43,000 annually. Pay is commensurate with experience, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

In addition to Salon Professional Academy's cosmetology program, the 600-hour esthetics program is offered in the evenings as a 10-month course of study or during the day (four months). Students in this program will learn about safety and health, bacteria, structure and and function of the skin, superfluous hair (waxing, chemistry -- in relation to cosmetics), makeup application and techniques, electricity and machinery, five various facials (notwithstanding basic facials), body procedures, and paramedical esthetics.

While employment trends vary, occupational outlook for manicurists and pedicurists is expected to grow faster than average according to the BLS. So, if becoming a nail technician interests you, Salon Professional Academy also affords prospective candidates with the opportunity to enroll in its 250-hour nail technology program, which instructs students in basic manicures and pedicures, including acrylic nails, gel nails, tip applications, nail wraps, nail art, retailing techniques, and anatomy and physiology of the arm, leg, hand, and foot.

Students who successfully complete all required coursework receive a diploma and a temporary license until they've taken their state boards to acquire permanent licensure in their respective field of study.

Ulrich says Salon Professional Academy graduates stand out from their competitors. "I think the biggest factors are that we require an 85% grade point average and attendance, so that when we go to place students, salon owners are going to come to us because they know our standards are higher; they know that we teach professionalism, and [students] get hands-on experience in the salon." The school also helps place students in over 500 salons."

SpaBeautySchools.com recognizes Salon Professional Academy and applauds its quality standards in providing professional cosmetology, esthetics and nail technology education. If you would like more information about this fine institute, please visit Salon Professional Academy today.
