Student Culture: An Important Question of Alcoholism

Enrolling in college or university, young people feel the freedom and independence. They want to try many new things. However, those things are not always good and useful for their health. One of such problems is alcoholism among young people.

Why do young people try alcohol? Here are some student answers.

  1. The first thing why young people want to try the alcohol drinks is that they are forbidden. Even if one is more than 21 years old, he/she cannot drink them on the territory of campus. So, young people consider it a sort of exciting adventure.
  2. The majority of young people assume that it is a good way to make friendship.
  3. Some of the students consider it an inseparable part of every party.
  4. Somebody of them like the feeling of the alcoholic inebriation. Drinks make people feel relax and happy.
  5. Some students say that it helps them to cope with stress, as alcohol is a kind of a depressant, in fact.

However, young people rarely think about the consequences. There is a number of great disadvantages of alcohol drinking. The most urgent of them are:

  1. Social behavior. Many crimes were committed by young people in the condition of the alcohol intoxication. In such a condition, people cannot control their emotions and behavior. Moreover, alcohol is a drug. Drinking a lot, people become dependent on the alcohol. Thus, their mental health is damaged. Any sort of dependence influences people's mental state negatively. Thus, one becomes nervous and uncontrolled, the relations with other people become worse and academic studies also suffer.
  2.  There are many diseases related to alcohol intoxication. Drinking may damage many organs like brain, liver, stomach, heart, nervous system and body system.
  3. There are also other problems like vitamin deficiency, muscle disease, obesity, skin problems and infertility.
