TELECOMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

Electronic engineering is basically the study of various electronic devices and equipments. The scientific formula and theories relating to electric flow of current, conductors, gases, liquid, fluids, vacuum and super conductors etc are all studied under electronic engineering based upon which a number of electronic products are created, developed and evolved which has numerous applications and uses that are studied under electronic engineering, for which there are various institutes and colleges in India and abroad.

Telecommunication on the other hand is also a fast growing field, all the more due to enhanced and ever rising technology like telephone voice processing equipments, telephones with touch tone facility, cellular phones, wireless, microwave technology, satellite technology, etc. The telecommunication engineering has even seen a swift surge with the computer technology linked vastly at global level by wires, optical fibers, cables etc.

The electronic engineering and the telecommunication engineering have vast range of products that are majorly used in four different areas.

1. First happens to be the area of the defence and space sector. It involves all their programmes, communication lines, storage memory, medical technology, codes, traffic conduct equipments and much more basically all that falls under the government sector.

  1. Second is the area comprising of the industrial sector using up products related to        electric and telecommunication engineering, equipments like electronic equipments used in every day office, testing devices, radiation detecting devices, electronic components and parts etc.
  1. Third area is the every day basic products for consumer purpose like microwaves, televisions, ovens, music players, video games, VCR, personal home computers etc.
  1. Fourth is the area that comprises of various complex electronic components like circuits, microprocessors, transistors,  picture tubes of televisions etc. that fall under electronic and telecommunication engineering.

Hence it’s pretty evident that electronic engineering and telecommunication sector comprises of a vast and ever advancing areas of technology and equipments.

Electronic engineers- take care of finding, creating, inventing, designing, constructing and operating of electronic systems equipments and devices. Their work is mainly subjected to sectors like – communication, automobiles and robotic industries. If a electronic engineer is a specialist he can deal with complex computing systems and programmes or industrial equipments etc. They have to take care of various tasks as it isn’t an easy job. Jobs like research and testing, production, teaching, inventions, enhancing etc have to be taken care of. Following are the tasks listed below that an electronic engineer needs to handle:

Research and development involves the process/task of processing and testing the product that is created, before launching it in the market it has to be tested and studied thoroughly for any sort of errors of malfunctioning against the various benchmarks set for it like ISI certification, ISO etc for quality testing. This can also be done using computer aided engineering with help of various enhanced equipments.

Production is the process where the engineers have to take care of the parts, machinery, and material etc that is being used for the final product and how to arrange and assemble them in the proper order keeping in mind the functionality and quality standards.

Servicing is the job of servicing engineers who provide after sales services working along with the sales department, it’s oriented for those customers who experience a difficulty in the product that is being sued, it’s the after sales services that is being provided to them.

Sales and marketing is handled by those electronic engineers who are well connected with the customer needs and are able to evaluate their needs, hence they handle the part of evaluating and advising of potential customers on their buying needs and equipments.

Telecommunication engineers – they basically handle the designing, manufacturing and operating of various telecommunication equipments and devices.

They have various industries like the telecommunication industry, the telephone industry, computer industry, microwave radio system, satellite communications, aerospace industry, earth station using satellite devices etc having expertise in these. Those working as a telecommunication engineer work in these various sectors to take care of the various related activities like research and development (R&D), production, sales and marketing etc.

Hence if one is looking for a career in this field then one needs to go for a graduation course in engineering by passing a basic entrance exam after 10+2, also one need to study Math and Physics in 12th.   There are various colleges and universities offering this course like – AV college of engineering, BITS Pilani, BMS college of engineering, Anna University, IIT, IGIT University, etc.

The future prospective and career opportunities are very promising and high in this field, hence one can earn good and achieve well after becoming an electronic and telecommunication engineer.
