The ancient Egyptian civilization is a fascinating one, and you will be hard pressed to find anyone to who will think otherwise. Ancient Egypt in modern terminology is situated in Africa, at the northwest corner.
The Nile River, in most cases just called the 'Nile', passed through the center of the culture. The northern part was known as Lower Egypt, and the southern part as Upper Egypt - a fact which has lead to some confusion among tourists. The Nile is recognized as the longest river in the world, but some researchers find that there is a chance that the Amazon River situated in South America may be a slight amount longer.
In fact there are three separate sections, or periods of time that Egyptian past can be divded up into. These are known as the Old Kingdom, the Central Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. Each period has specific facts which are unique to it, and are best learned and studied on their own.
The kingdoms of ancient Egypt were under the leadership of the Pharaoh at the time, and in fact the ancient Egyptian people themselves held the strong belief that somehow their gods were responsible for choosing each Pharaoh, thus the inhabitants could rest soundly at night, knowing that all was under control. In fact, the government of ancient Egypt can be mentioned as the first national government in the whole world, and individuals referred to as viziers, who were officials assigned to the Pharaoh, also helped to rule.
The Egyptian culture, like the Sumerian culture, had a language and writing style of their own. A Papyrus plant was used to make paper - thus defining the origin of the idiom, paper!
A lot of individuals find the ancient civilizations, Egyptian in particular, to be profoundly mysterious as a result of the incredible large monuments, most notably the Great Pyramid at Giza, very near to Cairo, that remain to this day.

Cyprus and the Egypt Connection
By: Kev Moore | 11/10/2007 | Travel
The Egyptians must have really like the beautiful Island of Cyprus because they just kept on coming back. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that in those days (1500 BC) they didn't have those luxury holiday resorts like Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. Whatever the reason whether it was the sandy beaches or the great climate they just kept on coming back to her shores. They first took a trip there under the instruction of Thothes the third round about 500 BC but they only hung around Cyprus until the Mycenaen Greeks turned up.

The facts and figures in this article may not be 100% accurate - I wasn't around to witness the history of the cat from the very beginning about 5000 years ago, so I've had to rely on various sources and my own imagination in equal parts. Furthermore, it's not supposed to be totally accurate - just a humorous and hopefully entertaining look at the history of our most beloved pet: THE CAT!
