Top 5 reasons NOT to attend University of Phoenix's criminal justice programNothing in life is ever totally black or completely white, there are various shades of gray in between. This theory applies to the criminal justice programs at the University of Phoenix too. Keeping that in mind, the top five disadvantages of this institution are listed below: · It is a for-profit university, which means tuition fees per credit hour are unreasonably high. For those who are not eligible for federal aid or scholarships and have to fund their education themselves without financial assistance from employers, this is not a feasible option. Books are often very expensive if you have to purchase them new. · There is no dedicated software technology, which is unexpected when you consider the standards that need to be set by such a large institution. The servers are also slow and prone to downtime. · Academic counselors and instructors are not up to par, which adversely affects the students' educational benefits. There is a high attrition rate with advisors and counselors leaving in the middle of an academic year. The teachers are also poorly paid, the repercussions of which are felt in their poor communication skills and lack of professionalism. Some also hold more than one job and so, do not take the trouble to exert themselves too much while handling classes. Low salaries also means only young and inexperienced counselors and faculty are available - they may or may not be good advisers or teachers. · The coursework is too management oriented and less focused on criminal justice, and this leads to many students finding that the degree that they earn from UoP is hardly adequate for getting them the jobs that hey want. The often end up competing with management graduates passing out of more reputed management schools. · Instructors are sometimes too generous with good grades, so the general feeling that a student is left with is that he/she is not earning the degree, but paying for it. Probably this is done in the hope of decreasing the number of dropouts.
