A Brief History

It was founded as a Troy State Normal School in 1987 on February 26 th , according to the Alabama Legislature act. The School was used to train teachers. It was later renamed Troy State Normal College . It offered extension courses and certificates for teachers and was again renamed as a Troy State Teacher's College. In 1967, it was granted the status of the university and was renamed as Troy State University .

The University offers several courses that are unique. It offers Health Care Administration, Human Resource Management, Nursing, and Bachelor of Science degree program in deaf interpreting. Troy 's learning center is the only institute that offers certification program in Polygraph science.
