Understanding the Benefits of Taking CLEP Tests

College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests are becoming more and more popular as they have become widely accepted by accredited universities and colleges. However, most people still do not understand why a CLEP tests are beneficial to them. The benefits of taking these exams have become so numerous that more and more people are taking these exams to jump start their path to a college degree. Here are some of the benefits that are gained through CLEP.

1. Reduce college expenses

Getting a college degree is becoming more expensive every year, with a single credit hour costing over $1000 at some universities. A CLEP test can help fulfill up to 12 credit hours. This means that one CLEP, costing under $100, can save hundreds or thousands of dollars in tuition alone. These savings excludes additional expenses such as expenses relating to books, multimedia, labs, and other required classroom materials, none which are needed for CLEP.

2. Save time

Each college course can take up to four months or more to complete and result in one to four credits for a passing grade. However, students can gain between three and twelve credits in just one afternoon with a CLEP test. This reason is just one of many examples of how CLEP exams can greatly accelerate a student’s path to receiving a college degree. In fact, by taking enough CLEP tests, students will be able to essentially skip two years or more of class time.

3. Skip boring classes

The CLEP exams will allow students to skip past basic, introductory coursework. Because CLEP tests can allow students to bypass prerequisite courses, students can use this amazing educational tool to quickly move on to more advanced and more interesting classes. CLEP tests can even allow students to completely bypass introductory courses.

4. Returning students can gain course credit for previous career experience

It can be frustrating, especially for adults, to continue their college education without CLEP. This is especially true if the person is trying to get a degree to land a promotion at work or attempting to change careers easily without much additional schooling. Returning students and adults often become frustrated when enrolling or reenrolling in college due to the requirement of taking many introductory level courses that teach information they have learned in the past of through life or work experience. A CLEP test will allow students to turn knowledge they have learned through experiences such as work, career training, and even various seminars into college credits. By taking CLEP exams, these students will be able to skip the coursework that they are already familiar with due to previous life experience.
