At last it’s time to learn something new, something grownups usually do. Yes, for teens, driving is a passage to adulthood.
Teens want to learn driving because once they do so, it eliminates the dependency to their parents to shuttle them to school. It also diminishes, sad but true, the embarrassment of being seen with the parents. At this point, teens want to be more independent.
However, before launching into massive celebrations for passing the driver’s test, teens should be aware of the responsibilities that they will face once they get their much awaited driver’s licenses.
First, teens must consult with their parents on what the conditions will be in terms of using the car. It is a fact that the parents still bought the car and it will be a poor repayment to destroy the vehicle for negligence. It can be a bit uncomfortable because it is expected for parents to be fussy and strict about rules but it pays to listen.
Second, teens must set own expectations. Loved ones and friends normally have expectations once a teen knows how to drive. Family members usually expect teens to go home before the set curfew time while friends want to break the rule and stay up all night while making the rounds in the city. As the driver, teens must set a limit and weigh the consequences of the actions. This kind of thinking is actually important for teen drivers especially if they encounter a difficult situation on the road, like avoiding the heavy traffic, deciding to overtake a vehicle or avoiding collision with a speeding vehicle. It requires quick and logical thinking.
Third, teens must know that driving is not a piece of cake especially if there are passengers. Safety measures should always be implemented such as wearing seatbelts, checking the car’s machinery to see if all are set in place. It pays to be meticulous.
This newfound skill should not be taken for granted. Responsible driving for teens is a good way to develop their character and skills. There will be more destinations to go to. In fact there may be new cars to drive with in the future once the teens become adult professionals who can afford a more expensive car.
Last but not least, teens must not forget to thank those who made them achieve the goal of learning how to drive. It was, after all an interesting journey full of challenges, frustrations and jubilations. It was a great ride after all.

Driving While Boozed is for Fools!
By: Thomas Rosquin | 03/06/2008 | Cars
According to the NHTSA; “Alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and nonfatally injure some every 2 minutes.” This equates to almost 17,000 people a year who’s lives could have been spared if someone knucklehead would have used discretion. It’s ridiculous to think that after all we have learned in defensive driving class not to mention being bombarded by the media; that there are those ignorant FOOLS still cruising around all liquored up!
