It may be a recession, but one thing seems to still be going strong - our ability to enjoy a good holiday. Whether you travel a lot because your business needs you to shoot across the world to score those big deals or you simply love to explore new environments, it's usually a pain to take your mobile with you. After all, roaming across the globe usually means one thing - roaming charges, and the costs incurred from using your mobile abroad have got to be one of the most unpleasant letters sitting on your doorstep when you return from being away.
Roaming charges have always been a bane to the globetrotting mobile user, because the cost of extending your connectivity across the planet is so expensive. For example, the cost of sending or receiving texts can cost as much as triple the normal rate - and that's with a good network. Some costs have had a flat rate of extortionate prices, costs that could end up making your holiday a lot more expensive than you'd planned.
Receiving calls is one of the main pitfalls of roaming - you get charged, with some networks, to simply pick up the phone. This strikes many users as unfair, since they're not making the call, and this rings particularly true when you're aware of just how much it costs to receive a call while abroad. The huge charges on using mobiles overseas has made staying in touch with friends and family while you're away nigh-on impossible - but not so much anymore.
The increasingly sophisticated development of mobile services has meant that it's now a lot less costly and far easier to extend network coverage across wider planes. Because of this many network providers are lowering their costs, some with the aim of eradicating them all together, so their users can make the most of their mobiles without being cut down by unfair, needlessly high roaming charges. This can only be a welcome thing for mobile users, especially business customers who may have to use their handsets frequently while away. After all, this is a recession - and if we're still trying to enjoy our holidays, we can't afford costly mobile bills!
However, if you're concerned still about overspending while away, why not consider switching to pay as you go or making the most of a cheaper contract with free SIMs? There are many ways you can save.
