Doing up Your Home

There are many things you need to take care of when you are thinking about doing up your home. You can either consult with an interior designer who can give you ideas or you can totally do it on your own. If you have no architectural knowledge, then it is better that you at least get one in to give you advice on the structural issues if you want to do all the decoration. There are a lot of things that go into making a home and we are not listing all, but here are some things you should consider.

Designing

If you are getting a professional designer, then you need to have quite a few sessions with him to get all your ideas across so there is no confusion. If you are doing it on your own, then, as said above, please get an architect in for consultation if you are thinking of making any structural changes. Decide on your design and know beforehand that this going to be a very tedious job. There are many things you will have to decide upon, so make a list of it all and do every room one by one and get the complete look. Decide on the theme of the house and colour scheme.

Furniture

Once the colours are done, you should move on to the furniture. If you are getting pieces made, please make sure it is well in advance, as it is best you don’t hurry the carpentry work. Choose the style of furniture according to the theme of the house if any, as Victorian furniture will look silly in a Chinese house. Go through every room and make a list of all the furniture you will need so you don’t miss out on even the smallest foot stools. There are many excellent furniture and home stores you can get ready-made pieces from. They are beautiful and you know for sure that there won’t be a mistake in the pieces, as you will choose only what you like and you will not be unpleasantly surprised. Take note of your upholstery, as your furniture maker will have to fit the sofas.

Fittings

After furniture come the fittings. By this we mean the light fixtures, bathroom fittings, kitchen fittings, tiles or wallpaper, etc. Again there are too many specific items to list, but we hope you got the gist. These might be small items and you can even buy some later after the whole house is done, but some need to be built in to the house, like your tiling, bathroom and kitchen fittings, focus lights, etc. So again, make a list individually for each room so you are not confused when you go shopping.

Electronics

No house will function without its electrical appliances in place. We mean if you won’t be able to see the house in the darkness, what is the point of doing it up? Electronics mean kitchen electrical appliances, lighting, televisions or LCD, wireless home theatre systems, music systems, etc. If you are looking for some great electronics, you can check them out at Online Electronics. Landscaping and Decorative

By decorative we mean paintings, accent pieces, show pieces, etc. You can’t have a bare home, as it looks not lived in and bare. Landscaping if you have garden space is very important, as you can’t have a beautiful home and then have a bad looking garden. Get a landscaping artist if you think you won’t be able to handle it, as it is not the same as doing up your home.
