Email marketing an outstanding strategy to market your business, connect with your clients and be remembered.  The most significant element of an email marketing campaign is building a mailing list. It has a direct relationship with the success of your campaign. Here are some things to remember if you want to start building your list.

1.    Ease. Sign up forms must be in front and center of your website. This way, it would be easy for people to see that you do have a mailing list thus, making it easy for them to opt-in.  Contact form or online shopping system should include a checkbox so your visitors can sign-up as they are completing their other activities on your website.

There are email marketing services out that that provide a code for your sign-up forms. This will make it easy for you to integrate a form into your website.

2.    Privacy. Always guarantee privacy if you want them to trust you. Everybody hates spam. Therefore, make it clear to them what they are signing up to receive. Also, include a disclaimer on every form that you will not share their private information or utilize it for any other purpose aside from your mailings. Letting them know how often will receive messages is also a great idea.

3.    Must be Permission-Based. Even if you only have a few hundreds of contacts in your mailing list that you are sure are more than willing to receive emails from you, give them the chance to opt-in. Send them an introductory message and let them know you have a mailing list. Let them know what type of information you will be sending and provide a link to confirm their subscription. Once confirmed, they will automatically be added to your list.

4.    Give Something Away. This can be in a form of a free report, a discount, a contest or sweepstakes or other incentives. However, make it clear that in order for them to claim the freebie, they have to sign up to your mailing list first. Provide them an option to unsubscribe anytime they want.

5.    Offline Efforts to build an Email Marketing Mailing List. Not all subscribers can be found on the web. In fact, not many of them have the time to come through your website. If you're an active member of a local organization, if you speak at conferences or regularly attend live networking events, don't forget to bring a "mailing list sign-up sheet". You will meet a lot of people who will opt-in right off the bat.
